Database
I have undertaken a project to create a
searchable database of victims and survivors of the great
fires. To my knowledge, no one has ever compiled a "master
list" of known victims or survivors. My goal is to bring
together data from many sources in one place in order to help
researchers (particularly genealogists) trying to determine what
may have happened to specific individuals living in the area at
the time.
My first step in this project is to compile
indexes of names from the various books and articles I have in my
possession. I will then move on to other sources, including the
1870 census (starting with the Peshtigo/Oconto County rolls, and
including other affected counties and townships as time allows).
I expect this project will take quite some time
to complete, but I will attempt to post at least some data in the
near future. If you would like to stay informed about the status
of this project, I recommend that you join my mailing
list.
