Area Affected

It is called the "Peshtigo Fire,"
but it wasn't just the
village of Peshtigo that was affected. (See
map.) The fire covered about 2,400 square miles, or 1.5
million acres in Wisconsin and Upper Michigan. At the same time,
forest fires also ravaged vast areas of Lower Michigan as well.
As information
becomes available and time permits, I will create separate
sections devoted to each of the communities that suffered losses
