Historical Day
Parade
On Saturday, the whole town will turn out for the
Historical Day parade. It's a classic show of hometown pride, and it's
a big one! There will be marching bands from several area schools,
fire trucks, tractors, classic cars, floats, horses and other animals,
scout troops, politicians, clowns and candy. The route is from Oconto
Avenue to Ellis Avenue and Green Street to Emery Avenue, ending at
Badger Park.
Frontier
Village/Rendezvous
Visitors
to Badger Park will have the opportunity to explore a frontier village/fur trader rendezvous. Participants
in authentic period dress will demonstrate many historic skills,
crafts, activities
and games -- blacksmithing, wood carving, spinning and weaving,
log splitting, hatchet throwing, firing of cannon and musket, and
more.
Other Activities
Past attractions
at Badger Park on Saturday have included a water ski show on the
Peshtigo River, kids'
games and face painting, food and refreshments, a beer garden, and
raffle prizes.
Ham and Egg Breakfast
On Sunday, the annual firefighters breakfast
is served in the high school
gym from 7:00 a.m. to noon. It's a hearty meal at a great price, and
all proceeds benefit the Peshtigo Fire Department.
Will the Fire Museum be Open?
Of course! The museum
address is 400 Oconto Avenue (one block off Hwy. 41/French Street at
Ellis Avenue, near the middle/high school). Stop by to see the historic
cemetery, and view the exhibits and historical marker commemorating
the 1871 disaster.
