The "Sugar Bushes" were the common name
for the areas of dense hardwood—mostly maple—forest to
the north and west of Peshtigo. This area included the Upper Sugar Bush (Porterfield
area); the Middle Sugar Bush (Harmony); and the Lower Sugar Bush (May
Corner) immediately to the west of Peshtigo.
